Water For People’s 2007-2011 Strategic Plan calls for more effective measurement and analysis of the work that Water For People supports internationally. Understanding the operational status and broader impacts of projects supported by Water For People allows us to:

• Strengthen our in-country programs by building on verifiable strengths and addressing identified weaknesses in the application of our program model in the fi eld.

• Hone our advocacy messages by infusing reliable and comprehensive data to our broader developmental messages.

• Build relationships with donors and supporters, who would welcome a more detailed review of our activities.

To achieve this, a mix of annual monitoring of projects, combined with more detailed evaluations of program work every three years, is required. This document focuses on yearly monitoring of water supply and sanitation functionality and use in the countries where we work.
